Data Recovery News - Seagate Warranty

In February 2007 Seagate wrote to data recovery companies informing us that effective February 15, 2007 that they would no longer honor the warrany Seagate and Maxtor  hard drives if the seal had been broken on the drive.  Prior to this letter, Seagate would honor their warranty if the seal was broken by a data recovery company to perform data recovery services. The reason given in the letter was that the economics and complexity of the technology caused Seagate to change the terms of their warranty.  Seagate went on to state that they would no longer endorse third parties as “authorized” data recovery partners.  While not wishing to discourage companies from providing the service, Seagate will no longer provide or allow any such endorsement.

This has caused quite a stir within the industry because in late 2005 Seagate purchased Action Front Data Recovery. In late 2006, Action Front, a Seagate Company became Seagate Data Recovery.  The Action Front name is no longer used.   Seagate is working to expand its presence in the market.

DRG has been servicing Seagate and Maxtor drives since we opened.  To ensure that all customers have a choice in their data recovery supplier, DRG will replace any drive where we break the seal to recover the data.  The drive must be submitted to Seagate for warranty replacement and be rejected for warranty replacement by Seagate.  The replacement drive will be of like capacity, but may be manufactured by another drive manufacturer.
