Recover My Files

Should I use a data recovery software utility to recover my files?

There is a definite place for running any of the many software programs available today. Most software available today is nominally effective at recovering deleted files if the deletion has just occurred and nothing has been written to the hard drive in question. But, unfortunately, using these programs under the wrong circumstances may do more harm than good.

Software recovery programs are designed to scan and analyze a working drive, using preset algorithms. Any deviation from the normal, (unreadable sectors, read/write head fluctuations, temperature issues, etc.) cause the software to hang and/or repeatedly attempt to read the damaged area of a hard drive. In many cases the constant attempts to recover an area of the drive that should be manually bypassed, or otherwise processed, will actually cause the drive to fail completely and render any recoverable data as unrecoverable.

If you have noticed any unusual noises, “blue-screen” errors, or any anomalies not directly related to an accidental file / folder deletion, it is time to pause and consider your options before making any data recovery attempts. If your data can be recreated, retrieved from transmitted email, restored from a backup, or is merely an inconvenience if lost, then a software program may be the best option for you. But, if your data is important and recovery is vital, your best course of action is to power the drive down and contact one of our data recovery engineers for a free consultation.

Approximately 85% of all catastrophic, permanent data loss is directly attributable to well-intentioned or panic driven attempts to recover data from a hard drive that has began to malfunction. Many apparently mild “hiccups” in your system are actually the precursor to hard drive failure and should not be taken lightly.

Data Recovery Group specializes in recovering data from many different souces. We have been in business since 1986 and and are a premier data recovery company.
